What is the Banana Tree Run trend, and who started it?

Updated:

Short answer

October 2026 brought an AI video trend. Someone sprints over the tops of banana plants, hopping between leaves that barely bend, filmed side-on like a martial-arts scene. The spark was an 11-second clip from Uganda, and a CapCut template then spread it.

Origins

A slower AI clip of someone walking on banana leaves, by another creator, appeared in February 2026. The faster running version took off on 16 October 2026. A creator in Uganda posted an 11-second video made with a CapCut template, and it had about 2.1 million views when we looked on 23 October 2026.

The same day a French how-to video reached roughly 855,000 views. Creators in Uganda, Nigeria and Mali then joined in with the same sound.

Why it gets copied

  • The impossibility: no one can run on leaves, and that stops the scroll.
  • One photo is enough: your face goes onto the runner.
  • It invites comments: captions like “who can do this” dare people to answer.

Your version

Our template builds this run from a single photo and times it to the 11-second clip. Start in the generator if you like, or take a look at the how-to guide first.

Questions people ask

Is any of it real?

Not in the slightest, because each viral version is AI-made. A banana leaf could never hold a person, so do not attempt it.

Where is the plantation?

The viral clip looks like a hillside farm of the kind found in Uganda. We generate a comparable plantation, though a generic one.

How long does the original run?

Roughly 11 seconds. Our full video matches that length.

Run the banana leaves with your own photo
